How We Do Things

Communication

Whether it is a painting commission, 3D print, or customisation project, it starts with you sending an enquiry. Tell me what you have in mind, include your contact details, and send through any models, files, references, or instructions that help explain the project. I will look it over, ask questions if anything needs clarifying, and then give you a quote if everything is clear. Sometimes we work out the practical details during quoting. Such as whether you are posting models to me, I am ordering them directly to save postage, or are you dropboxing STL files. Once the invoice is paid, you are on the list.

Preparation

Once your turn comes up, I go back through the project details. There is usually a waitlist, because other clients are also waiting and Caladors Commissions is a two-person team, but I will let you know what is ahead of you. At the beginning, updates are usually more frequent because this is when a lot of important decisions get locked in. That might mean confirming weapon options, model variants, which files from a batch need printing, or any small details that affect the final result. Most of this is covered early, but sometimes things pop up along

Process

As the project develops, I will show you how things are coming along. For a large painting commission with lots of similar troops, I may paint an example model first so you can see the intended direction before moving on. For a showcase piece, I might show a specific technique, detail, or test part. For 3D printing, it may be progress photos of the latest prints, especially if it is part of a larger batch. The exact updates depend on the project, but the goal is always the same: keeping you informed so you know the work is moving forward.

Completion

Once the project is complete, I will send final photos. Whether it is a batch of prints, a tabletop miniature, or a showcase model, we take final shots before anything leaves us and turn around videos for painted projects. These photos are partly for our portfolio and gallery, but they also give you one last chance to see the finished project clearly before it is packed or handed over. By this point, you have usually seen the process already. It is often the last time we see the project, which can be bittersweet for us, but exciting for you.

Delivery

Once everything is confirmed, we get the project to you. For local clients, we can arrange handover somewhere public and easy to access. More often, we carefully pack the project and post it to you. We also deal with the strange logistical nonsense that sometimes comes with postage, including customs forms, tariffs, exclusions, and the occasional bizarre question about whether tiny model weapons count as ornamental weapons. Yes, that happened once. After that, the best part is when the project arrives and we hear from someone excited to finally see their vision brought to life.
