Bushido Cult of Yurei

Character level

This Cult of Yurei collection for Bushido by GCT Studios was painted to character level, with a focus on corrupted skin tones, vein work, glowing magical effects, atmospheric basing, and making sure you get the feel of the team at a glance. We did a corrupted padi field as the base, cracked earth gives way to stagnant pools of murky water, sparse dying grasses struggle to survive. We wanted the collection to feel readable, unsettling and full of distinct personality but you can tell they are a team.

Client instructions

Having commissioned us for many years, the client trusted us to develop the collection with very little direction. With only limited official artwork available, we took inspiration from what existed while relying heavily on historical Japanese references such Edo period designs for the farmers clothing and our own artistic experience to guide the project. The client was ecstatic and as per usual. They were very happy with the research we did into their pet project to make it feel real.

Summarised Process

  • Preparation

We planned the entire collection together so every blister shared the same palette, corruption, and visual identity.

  • Colour

We used pallid flesh, muted historical colours, and selective spot colours to create an eerie but readable force.

  • Effects

Glowing corruption, vein work, blood, and spectral energy reinforce the supernatural feel of each miniature.

  • Basing

Cracked earth, stagnant water, mud, and dying grass create corrupted padi fields that unify the collection.
