Necron Monolith

Showcase Level

This Warhammer 40,000 Necron Monolith was painted to showcase level, using a lot of Object Source Lighting (OSL), True Metallic Metal (TMM), and various glow effects. Much of the finish was achieved with a combination of airbrushing, oils, and standard brushwork. Due to the amount of airbrushing involved, there was a lot of masking and fiddling about, but we think the end result speaks for itself.

Client instructions

The client wanted something that looked like the box art, so we used analogous greens, off-greys, and, of course, went to town with the glow. We showed the client every step of the way, and they were extremely happy, which made us just as happy.

Summarised Process

  • Sub-assembly painting

We like to work in sub-assemblies so we can reach all the parts easily.

  • Metallics and OSL effects

Next, we focused on effects like scratches, True Metallic Metal, and lighting effects.

  • Basing

We used crushed coloured resin, black sand, and hieroglyph texture rollers to create an Egyptian-themed tomb world base.

  • Full assembly

Finally, we fully assembled the model and placed it on its custom base.
