Vulkan Primarch of the Salamanders.

Showcase

Unfortunately for my client, this has a bit of a story behind it…

I wasn’t the first commissioner he went with and these models were not even assembled when he first gave it away. He had spent years collecting the Primarchs and had the idea of a little shrine to his youth and Warhammer 40,000. However, while he sent this to someone during the lockdown… they quote a very good price… the problem was… they didn’t really go beyond assembly and were not treated very well so this was not only a showcase paint job but also an eBay miniature rescue™. As such, many of my options were limited in how I could move forward with it.

My client has been beyond happy, which is great for the roller coaster which was the first showcase model I ever did.

Simplified Process

  • Stripping the model

This was a bit of a miniature rescue, we had to strip the original sticky and thick prime job done by a previous commission painter before we began.

  • References

We look for references based on the client’s preferences, along with any references given to us by the client.

  • Zenithal & Base tones

We go in with a Zenithal prime and set up the base tones with an airbrush.

  • Painting the Elements

Now we paint in all the different elements found on the model.

  • Effects

We refine the details by adding effects like true metallic metal and Object Source Lighting (OSL)

  • Basing

We paint up the base and add pigment powders and other effects to give the look of battle ruins

  • Final Assembly

The Primarch is attached to his base and Done!
