Executioners Blade guard
Character level
These Warhammer 40,000 Executioners Space Marines Bladeguard Veterans were painted to character level as former veterans of the Badab War. Given the Executioners’ chapter identity and brutal way of battle, we added specific iconography to their shoulder pads and tilt shields, then pushed them into a heavily war-torn finish. Look closely at their bases and you may see why they are so angry.
Client instructions
The client wanted these models to feel like veterans of the Badab War, showing an intense amount of battle damage. They also wanted axes, so we customised a set in Blender to make every weapon unique. A lot of time went into balancing the damaged armour, metallic shine, rust effects, and our own chipping style so the models looked brutal without becoming visually muddy.
Summarised Process
-

Conversion
We 3D printed custom axes, converted the weapons, and dry-fitted the parts before painting.
-

Metallics and Chipping
Next, we airbrushed the metallics, sponged on masking fluid, and applied rust effects to create realistic chipping.
-

Detailing
We painted in the details and added depth through shading.
-

Basing
Finally, we fully assembled the models and placed them on battle-ruined bases. Also, this is why they are so angry…
